Biting Impact Assessment (2011)

Typical biting insect impact assessment undertaken by Darryl as required by many Local Governments in Australia on residential land developments. Background biting insect (mosquito and

biting midge) abundance and species diversity is characterised by trapping adult insects, speciating and counting in the Brisbane laboratory, larvae habitat surveys and determination of public health risk. From the risk assessment, integrated mosquito management techniques (See paper) are selected that best reduce likely future exposure of residents to biting insects. Recommendations are usually made a condition of consent for the development application. Darryl has undertaken more

than 150 such biting insect impact assessments since 2001.
